EXPERTISE

Numerical simulation

Explore design behaviour before committing to physical tooling.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Connect the process to the purpose.

Simulation needs realistic material data and boundary conditions. It supports design decisions but still requires correlation with physical tests.

Questions to bring to the conversation

  • What is the application, and which requirements are essential?
  • How will the finished component be manufactured and assembled?
  • Which conditions should be represented in testing?
  • What happens at the end of the useful service life?

Any performance, food-contact or environmental claim needs evidence for the specific grade and application. Agree the validation and documentation requirements before selecting a final design.

Create a relevant model

Capture contacts, constraints and expected loading. Use material data that represent the selected grade and manufacturing route, and document important simplifications.

Compare design options

Study geometry, thickness, reinforcement and material distribution against the same requirements. Evaluate deformation and stresses to identify a promising balance between performance and material use.

Correlate with tests

Use prototype measurements to assess the assumptions in the model. Simulation supports tooling and design decisions while representative tests establish the behaviour of the finished application.
