Foam moulding

Shape bead foams into protective packaging, insulation assemblies and lightweight technical components.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Connect the process to the purpose.

Define density, wall thickness, geometry, inserts and assembly interfaces early. Prototype evaluation should include real loading and environmental conditions.

Questions to bring to the conversation

  • What is the application, and which requirements are essential?
  • How will the finished component be manufactured and assembled?
  • Which conditions should be represented in testing?
  • What happens at the end of the useful service life?

Any performance, food-contact or environmental claim needs evidence for the specific grade and application. Agree the validation and documentation requirements before selecting a final design.

From particles to a part

A mould receives the prepared beads and heat joins them into the required geometry. Cooling and stabilisation prepare the part for release, finishing and assembly; preparation differs by material and grade.

Integrate the useful details

Review ribs, wall thickness, inserts, joining surfaces and areas exposed to compression. Tooling texture and surface treatment can affect the part experience alongside its dimensional and mechanical behaviour.

Validate the finished shape

Select density around actual loads and interfaces. Test representative moulded parts for the required thermal, dimensional and impact behaviour instead of treating raw-material properties as the complete product specification.
